The Prince Albert Police Service is issuing a public warning following several reports of counterfeit currency being circulated in the community. Since November of this year, there have been several incidents involving fake Canadian $20, $50, and $100 bills.
The counterfeit bills share identical serial numbers, which is unusual and a clear indication of forgery. Businesses and individuals are advised to be vigilant when accepting cash, especially in the mentioned denominations.
Counterfeit bills can be spotted by checking the feel of the paper and the raised ink. Tilting the bill will allow you to see the colour-shifting numbers, as well. If you come across fake money, the P.A. Police advise not to return the bill to the passer, instead observe the passer’s description and those they are with.
The bill should be kept safety, along with any related materials, and the Prince Albert Police Service should be contacted immediately.
