Renny Grilz (pictured) of the Meewasin Valley Authority is one of six people from across Canada selected as a Nuffield Canada 2024 Scholar.
The selected individuals receive scholarships from Nuffield Canada and its sponsors to challenge themselves in self-directed research programs with international travel and experimental learning. Grilz’s project will examine how native seed industry networks can meet native seed supply requirements for global biodiversity restoration initiatives, as well as the possibility of a native seed bank on the Saskatchewan prairies. His main sponsor for the scholarship is the Nature Conservancy of Canada. The selected scholars, like Grilz, must do a minimum of 10 weeks of travel study within 24 months to examine and research an agriculturally relevant issue of their choosing. They will, then, prepare a written report of their research findings and present a summary to the Nuffield Board with peers, sponsors and industry leaders in attendance.
