It’s no secret that the words Christmas and Santa go together like the words bread and butter. For the past 40 years in Saskatoon the words secret and Santa have also been synonymous with each other. Secret Santa was begun by the late legendary radio personality Denny Carr who had his radio station team up with the Salvation Army to try and ensure no young child went without a new toy under the Christmas tree. Denny passed away in 1999 while working at CJWW radio but his legacy continued with the formation of a registered charity, the CJWW Denny Carr Secret Santa Foundation. Today, the Foundation provides food and toy hampers at Christmas for 800 Saskatoon families with children 12 and under. This afternoon at 2 o’clock, the 2023 Secret Santa campaign officially launches in the lobby at City Hall with Mayor Charlie Clark, The Foundation Board of Directors, the Caroling Firefighters and Title Sponsor Saskatoon Co-op as well as others, in front of the Christmas tree and Santa’s sleigh. For the remaining weeks before Christmas we welcome monetary donations or new unwrapped toys or games for young children. Please go to Saskatoonsecretsanta.ca and let’s make 800 Saskatoon families have a better Christmas in 2023.
