Egor Sidorov (pictured) was able to solve Ewan Huet twice Wednesday, just enough to allow the Saskatoon Blades to extend their winning streak to four games with a 2-1 shootout triumph in Regina.
Huet – an 18-year-old import from Lausanne, Switzerland, and the son of former N-H-L goaltender with the L-A Kings, Montreal, Washington and Chicago, Cristobal Huet – was brilliant, stopping 38 of 39 Bridge City Bunch shots. An Anaheim Ducks’ 2023 third round draft pick, Sidorov scored on a first period power play with a screened shot, then connected on the Blue and Gold’s first attempt of the shootout. Austin Elliott wasn’t as busy in the Blades’ goal, but still shone with 27 saves and denied the Pats on all three of their shootout attempts, as Saskatoon improved their record to 12-5-0 for the season. The victory for the Bridge City Bunch was the first by a road team in five games of the season series between the Big City Saskatchewan rivals. All four Blue and Gold victories on their current run have come with them wearing their gold/yellow third jerseys and with associate coach Dan Da Silva as acting head coach with Brennan Sonne away with Team Canada-White at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Prince Edward Island. The Blades’ next action is Friday in Swift Current with CJWW’s broadcast starting at 6:45 p.m. with the Palliser Rooms E-Q-3 Cutting Edge Pre-Game Show and the play-by-play at 7 p.m. Following are the audio highlights from CJWW’s broadcast, Les Lazaruk’s Post-Game Show interview with Da Silva and the official game summary courtesy the W-H-L…..
