About 200 adults in northern Saskatchewan communities will have access to free, online high school courses throughout this school year.
Northlands College is partnering with the Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre on the initiative, which will allow adult students to complete their Grade 12, upgrade high school courses or complete the prerequisites needed to gain access to post-secondary training.
Northlands College is providing $100,000 to cover the course fees for students over the age of 22 living in the Northern Saskatchewan Administrative District.
Education Minister Jeremy Cockrill says, “access to free education means students in the North are able to learn from trained Saskatchewan teachers from within their home communities.”
Previously, Northlands College had an agreement with Northern Lights School Division’s Edcentre online school called Masinahikana School. The success of that collaboration ensured adult students living in the North continued to have access to high school courses they needed as well as over 70 high school electives.
