Suncrest College, which was formed less than five months ago as a result of a merger between Cumberland and Parkland colleges, has seen its first class, graduate.
Fourteen young firefighters celebrated their completion of the National Fire Protection Association program on October 27th.
Brady Lang, Communications Specialist for Suncrest College, says the college offers a variety of training courses with the National Fire Protection Association program being one of the most popular. During the six-month course, students participated in a variety of hands-on activities, including live demonstrations and car extractions using the jaws of life.
The graduates can now be placed at rural fire stations around the province, however if they wish to work in a larger centre such as Saskatoon or Regina, they must complete a primary care paramedic program, which is also offered through Suncrest.
Lang says the program fills up quite quickly, but he encourages hopefuls to apply for the next intake which begins in April of 2024.
