This is Vanese Ferguson with Coffee Talk. The province is apparently working with school divisions after it passed a new law that requires schools to fly a Saskatchewan flag in tandem with the Canadian flag. The Canadian flag has always been flown outside of Saskatchewan schools. Meanwhile, last week it was pointed out on social media that the province isn’t flying a Canadian flag in the media room at the Legislature. The CBC is reporting, that in fact they haven’t had a Canadian flag as part of the backdrop in the media room for over a year. Deliberate? I think absolutely. This is no different than a child throwing a tantrum and screaming you’re not the boss of me. It’s not professional, it’s disrespectful. Do you know what adults do when they disagree, or used to – informed people who are tolerant to other ideas and thoughts – they don’t burn the house down. Professionals, and I would hope that to some degree that could describe individuals sitting in the Legislature as well as the House of Commons, they use the parliamentary tools available to continue to present their side of an issue. No one likes the carbon tax. That doesn’t mean the population wants to bail on Canada.  So, excluding the Canadian flag as a visual as subtle psychological tactic is just demeaning both to those who decided to employ such a divisive strategy and demeaning to the people they are trying to influence. It would seem the politicians regard the people who elected them as nothing better than sheeple. And of course, no cost has been unveiled regarding what it takes to put a Saskatchewan flag outside every school in the province or who is going to pay for it. Oh right, no matter what government or education budget it comes from – it still comes from you and me.
