After the recent bear attacks, Parkland Ambulance Paramedics has released some tips to the public on how to prevent such attacks.
Although the area isn’t known for grizzly bears, there is still a large black bear population. Suggestions include make noise, watch for fresh bear signs such as droppings or claw marks, keep your dog on a leash, walk in groups, and know how to use bear spray. The public is also reminded to stay on the trails and travel during daylight hours.
A 73-year-old woman was hospitalized after she was attacked by a bear west of Glacier National Park and just south of the U.S. Canadian border over the weekend. That attack comes just two days after a couple was killed by a grizzly bear in Banff. In the Banff incident when park officials arrived at the scene there was a grizzle bear present exhibiting aggressive behavior. Park authorities say the bear was euthanized on-site “to ensure public safety.
