Seven new firefighter-paramedic recruits were welcomed by the Saskatoon Fire Department at their graduation ceremony on Friday.
This is the second batch of recruits to graduate this year, after 15 people were hired in April.
To prepare for their new roles, the group has been reviewing their skills over the last four weeks alongside the department’s fire service instructors. They completed training in firefighting, technical rescue, hazardous material mitigation and community relations.
Anthony Tataryn, Assistant Chief of Staff Development and Safety stated in a news release that the SFD responds to over 21,000 incidents each year, and it’s important to find people who are not only committed to serving the community but are also qualified in a variety of skill sets.
The new firefighter-paramedics were presented with their badge and battalion assignment, and they will start their first shifts on Monday.
