Two people have been arrested in connection to a firearm discharge on Canoe Lake Cree First Nation, and Beauval RCMP are searching for two more suspects.
On September 27 at 4:45 a.m., Beauval RCMP responded to the firearm discharge, and initial investigation determined a firearm was shot towards two houses in the community. No injuries were reported, and the incident is not believed to be random.
As a result of investigation, 31-year-old Harold Cardinal from Canoe Lake Cree First Nation and 25-year-old Mary Daigneault from Ile a la Crosse were arrested at a residence on the first nation. Officers say they seized a restricted firearm, ammunition and other weapons at the home.
The pair are facing five firearms related charges and were scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
Through continued investigation, RCMP have also charged 24-year-old Marissa McCallum from Jan’s Bay and 32-year-old Shannon Opikokew from Canoe Narrows each with one count, discharge firearm while being reckless. Warrants have been issued for their arrests and Beauval RCMP are trying to locate them.
Marissa McCallum is described as 5’6” with a medium build. She has brown hair and brown eyes. Shannon Opikokew is described as 5’7” and 145 lbs. She has black hair and brown eyes. A photo of them both is attached.
