Saskatoon’s road construction projects are both on schedule and on budget, according to a news release from the City of Saskatoon.
Construction on the Circle Drive North Bridge began in February, and upgrades to the westbound side were completed in July. Work on the eastbound lanes continues and is expected to wrap up in October. Improvements include new asphalt and barriers, concrete and drainage upgrades, and pier and abutment repairs.
Several road resurfacing projects have been completed on sections of Circle Drive North, Preston Avenue, and Wanuskewin Road, as well as road and sidewalk upgrades in the Saskatoon Transit Downtown Terminal. The City earmarked $67.17 million for road and bridge maintenance and construction this year.
Water main replacements continue Downtown, in River Heights, 33rd Street West, and in Varsity View. General Manager of Transportation and Construction Terry Schmidt says because road work was coordinated to occure at the same time as water main replacements, money and time have been saved, and impacts to residents have been reduced.
