Four Saskatoon residents have been arrested after they evaded police during a traffic stop Friday night.
At 8:30pm, officers spotted a stolen, spray-painted black Jeep Cherokee at Diefenbaker Drive and 22nd Street West. A traffic stop was attempted, but the driver fled at a high rate of speed. Police say they saw the same vehicle leave the city, southbound on Highway 219. A tire deflation device was deployed, however the suspects avoided the devices and veered towards the officers standing nearby in a ditch but did not make contact with them. As the vehicle returned to the highway it sideswiped a police SUV.
Due to the vehicles refusal to stop, officers in a Police SUV made contact with it, forcing it to stop. No one was injured. Two women and two men got out of the vehicle and were arrested without further incident. Both of the men were taken to hospital as a precaution but were later returned to SPS Detention. They were both wanted on outstanding warrants. The 26-year-old female driver was charged with Dangerous Driving, Evade Police, three counts of Assault with a Weapon, and Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000. She was also wanted on an outstanding warrant.
All three passengers were charged with Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000.
