Last Friday was the 17th anniversary of the death of two RCMP officers, Constables Marc Bourdages and Robin Cameron. They, along with Constable Michelle Knopp were trying to question Curtis Dagenais about a domestic dispute, but the officers were shot after a pursuit on gravel roads. Knopp was shot three times, but survived.
In their honour, Spiritwood RCMP and the Spiritwood, Pelican Lake First Nation and Witchekan Lake First Nation joined together for an event at the Cameron and Bourdages Memorial Park in Spiritwood.
Saskatchewan RCMP Commanding Officer Rhonda Blackmore says Bourdages and Cameron died protecting the community and, in the hours and days that followed, the extended community supported the families who had a more profound loss than anyone can ever imagine, and supported the RCMP.
