Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan/website
After receiving national recognition and golden reviews from its presentation in Winnipeg, The Dark Lady will begin running at Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan starting tomorrow evening.
The play was recently written by Canadian actor and playwright Jessica B. Hill. During its run in Saskatoon, the play’s artistic director is Saskatoon native Kayvon Koshkam, a director, writer, actor, and musician that has been working in the theatre business across Canada, United States, and overseas.
Koshkam says the play is about the real historical figure Emilia Bassano, who the playwright theorizes is the ‘dark lady’ Shakespeare is talking about in his sonnets. He adds that this production will be more affordable than most that pass through the amphitheater. The production is special, because it will be offered as a ‘pay what you choose’ model, and audience members who are unable to purchase a mainstage ticket will still be able to enjoy the play.
The other two productions running this summer are Romeo and Juliet, which begins Friday evening, and As You Like It, with opening night on July 15th.
