As the run off from the snow and rain event last week in Alberta makes its way to Saskatchewan more ferries along the North Saskatchewan River are impacted. The Paynton Ferry, the Wyngard Ferry which is southwest of Prince Albert and the Cecil Ferry east of Prince Albert between Highways 55 and 302 are all closed due to water level.
The Weldon Ferry operating between Highways 3 and 302 north of Weldon and east of Prince Albert is taking light loads only with a weight restriction of 10,000 kilograms. The Fenton Ferry is also taking light loads with a weight restriction of 4, 000 kilograms.
In Prince Albert, due to the increase in the river flow, the City of Prince Albert says the Water Treatment Plant Operational staff is frequently monitoring the incoming raw river water quality and is making necessary adjustments in the treatment processes to ensure the residents continue to get high-quality water.
A high stream advisory is in place for the North Saskatchewan River near the City of Prince Albert. The river is expected to rise approximately 2 metres or 6.5 feet.
Peak flow on Wednesday and Thursday is expected to be 1100-1200 m3/s. Typical flows are between 200-300 m 3/s. Prince Albert area residents are advised to stay out of the water, stay away from low-lying areas until the water recedes, keep your pets from the river and keep watercraft off the river due to fast-moving water and excessive debris.
