Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck is calling on Premier Scott Moe to hold the three by-elections as soon as possible.
The Coronation Park by-election deadline is August 10th, and Beck suspects that Moe is waiting until the very last minute. She says the residents of Coronation Park, Lumsden-Morse, and Regina Walsh Acres need an opportunity to send the government a message.
Beck continued by stating the Moe government is failing, as power bills have been raised three times in the last eight months, homelessness is on the rise, the food bank is seeing more visits than ever before, and waiting times for medical care are longer than they should be. She also mentioned the Angus Reid polls that show Saskatchewan has the worst levels of financial security in the country. Beck stated that Saskatchewan citizens deserve better than their province being deemed ‘worst in the country’ on several measures. Her speech was made Friday underneath the Government of Saskatchewan’s “Growth That Works for Everyone” billboard.
She says the billboard’s message is out of touch with reality, as it is surrounded by shuttered businesses and abandoned buildings, and that the only visible growth is the growth in the number of citizens struggling to pay their bills every month. Beck was joined by the candidates for the upcoming by-elections, Noor Burki, Jared Clarke, and Kaitlyn Stadnyk.
