The Saskatchewan Roughriders are continuing their preparations for Saturday’s visit to Calgary.
At last night’s Annual Meeting, the Green and White reported a total net income of almost $7.2 million for the 2022-23 season – almost $3.9 million from the club’s regular-season operating income plus an additional $3.3 million from hosting the Grey Cup, after the C-F-L was given their share. The team recorded a profit of over $771,000 from merchandise last season. That was down from the previous season but Grey Cup merchandise actually made it an increase. Also, season ticket sales for this season are down about 10 per cent from pre-pandemic levels. Last season, the team reported just under $16 million from the gate from playing 10 home games. ROUGHRIDERS HOLD ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The Saskatchewan Roughriders held its 2022-23 Annual General Meeting in Harvard Broadcasting’s Studio 620 at Mosaic Stadium on June 21. Chief Financial Officer Kent Paul presented the financial report which featured the following highlights:
Financial Report
In 2022-23, the Club had total revenues of $39.7 million and expenses of $35.8 million, resulting in excess revenues over expenses from operating activities of $3.9 million, compared to the same amount the prior year. When non-operating activities, including the 2022 Grey Cup results are considered the Club recorded excess revenues over expenses of $7.2 million.
A full 18-game season alongside the ability to host the 109th Grey Cup helped the Club to recover from the cancellation of the 2020 season and a shortened 2021 season. This allowed the Club to reinvest into its Stabilization Fund, bringing the balance to a level higher than pre-pandemic.
109th Grey Cup and 2022 Grey Cup Festival
After four years of planning the Club was able to host the 109th Grey Cup and the 2022 Grey Cup Festival which from all markers was a resounding success. The event earned $7.5 million in profits, one of the strongest Grey Cup’s ever, with 60 percent going to the CFL and 40 percent remaining with the Club.
The 109th Grey Cup and 2022 Grey Cup Festival generated nearly $70 million in economic activity in Canada and 94 percent of attendees rated the event ‘excellent’ or ‘very good’.
