Manitoba RCMP have released information about a horrible bus-semi collision on the Trans-Canada highway at 11:43am Thursday morning, near Carberry, about 175 kilometres west of Winnipeg. RCMP Assistant Commissioner Rob Hill the majority of people on the bus were seniors from Dauphin and surrounding area.
Images from the scene depict a semi truck with its front end smashed and burned, and the remnants of what was the bus seen burnt in the ditch. On the highway, emergency crews placed blankets on the bodies of victims.
Ten people were transported to four different hospitals in Winnipeg. STARS helicopters were called in from Winnipeg and Regina.
RCMP sympathize with people in Dauphin who are looking for more information, but they want to make sure victims and survivors are accurately identified.
RCMP Superintendent Rob Lasson says specialized experts are handling the investigation. They have also reached out to investigators involved in the Humboldt Broncos collision on April 6th, 2018, in which 16 people died and 13 were injured. Superintendent Lawson is not ruling out a criminal element to the investigation but says providing factual and accurate information is the top priority right now.
