The Saskatoon SPCA is looking to the public in a search for a new building after losing the City of Saskatoon’s pound services contract.
Fred Dyck, the Executive Director at the Saskatoon SPCA, says there are some needs that the new building should meet, including good drainage for easy clean-up, up to 10,000 square feet of space to house the animals, and existing office space for administration. Dyck says they will most likely be leasing space for the next few years, but they are open to purchasing.
Losing the contract was a shock to the organization as they have held it since 1968. However, Dyck says the loss turned out quite positive as it has refocused the organization on their core mission to be an animal welfare agency.
Individuals, property owners, real estate agents, and organizations with leads or connections to potential buildings are encouraged to reach out to the SPCA.
“If there’s somebody out there that’s got a building and they think they would like us to be their tenant for the next few years, we will give them unfettered access to great animals and we’ll make sure that we’re the best tenants they could imagine,” says Dyck.
