Across the country, today (Fri) is recognized as the 13th annual Red Dress Day, a National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People.
The City of Saskatoon is recognizing the day. From 7:30-3:30 today on the lawn at City Hall, a Red Dress Day there is an outdoor installation, and from 6:00-7:00 p.m., an awareness walk is being led by the community. It begins at the Vimy Memorial Bandstand. Several civic facilities will also be lit up in red this evening, including City Hall, the SaskTel Centre, and the Prairie Wind art installation beside the Remai Modern.
The day gained its origins from a national public art installation where red dresses were hung to bring attention to the crisis.
