A Maple Creek man has been arrested for a sexual assault he is believed to have committed over 20 years ago.
On Tuesday, Maple Creek RCMP received a report of a sexual assault that had occurred in the early 2000’s. Police say that the investigation determined a man had sexually assaulted a young boy during a sport-related trip. Wednesday, RCMP arrested 64-year-old Dexter Bascu, and he was charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of sexual interferences. He made his first court appearance Wednesday. Police believe the man may have more victims, and the investigation is still ongoing. Bascu was a long-time teacher in several Maple Creek schools but has since retired. He also volunteers at local youth sports and music programs. Anyone with information on the assault is asked to contact the Maple Creek RCMP or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.
