There is a full agenda for this year’s Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association convention. This year, organization members will be tackling the topics of mental health, social work, and health care issues, as well as communicating concerns about the decommissioning of landfills.
The Government of Saskatchewan’s mandate to reduce the number of landfills across the province from 500 to 100 is leaving small communities unable to afford the decommissioning process.
With the topic of health care, Goulden adds that ambulance unavailability, shortened clinic hours, EMS retention, and the closure of health facilities are concerns that will continue to be voiced.
During the convention, SUMA will also be finding ways for member’s voices to be better heard and improve the organization’s effectiveness and transparency.
The Board of Directors commissioned a governance review where potential governance structures will be explored and explained several times throughout the three-day event.
A speech from Premiere Scott Moe will be held on Monday, and award-winning Metis entrepreneur Cody Demerais will be speaking on overcoming challenges on Tuesday.
