Police say a man was assaulted in downtown Saskatoon after recording an altercation between two groups of youth engaged in a verbal fight. At 5:30pm on Wednesday, officers received several reports of two groups of youth that had engaged in an argument in the area of 20th Street East near 3rd Avenue South. Police say that one or more firearms were also reported to have been pointed between the groups during the altercation.
As both groups were leaving the area, police say a bystander who was recording the fight, and is believed to be uninvolved otherwise, was physically assaulted by one of the suspects. The 18-year-old male victim was sent to hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries, and a 25-year-old man was charged with assault causing bodily harm. In the investigation that followed, police claim to have found a discarded replica firearm in the area.
The investigation is still ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information or video evidence of the incident to contact the SPS or Crime Stoppers.
