An RCMP officer died in the line of duty early Monday in the County of Strathcona—a rural area east of Edmonton.
Thirty-two year old Constable Harvinder Singh Dhami, or known as Harvey to his fellow officers, was driving to assist in a noise complaint call around 2am. The cruiser hit a concrete barrier and despite efforts of emergency responders and the civilians present, Constable Dhami succumbed to his injuries.
His commanding officer Superintendent Dale Kendall made this statement to reporters.
The incident is under investigation and RCMP indicate more information may be provided when available.
Constable Dhami graduated from RCMP Depot in Regina four years ago and was posted to the Strathcona Municipal detachment.
Funeral arrangements are pending. He is survived by his wife, mother, sister and brother.
