Two separate instances of Saskatoon Police officers having to use a Conducted Energy Weapon occurred on Friday.
At 9:30am, police received a call of a break and enter in progress. Officers were told a man entered a residence at Carrothers Court and Junor Avenue. The suspect had threatened a woman inside with a wrench, and then fled the building in an unknown direction. After a search of the area, police located a 43-year-old man who matched the victim’s description of the intruder.
The man failed to comply with police instruction before charging at one of the officers. It was then that the energy weapon was used. The officer received a minor injury, and the man is facing four charges. These include Break and Enter, Uttering Threats, Theft, and Assaulting a Police Officer. Later on in the day at 2:30pm, police were called to the 3800 block of Fairlight Drive where they had to use the Conducted Energy Weapon in an attempt to stop a 40-year-old man from threatening self-harm with a weapon. He was transported to hospital for further assessment.
