It is now tax filing season, and the Canada Revenue Agency is reminding citizens of how they can get organized to prepare to file.
Joanne de Waal, a CRA spokesperson, says Canadians should sign up or sign into an online CRA account to get organized.
In the account, she suggests updating any personal information such as marital status, look at your RRSP contribution limit, and check the ‘uncashed cheques’ section for possible money that has yet to be deposited into your account.
De Waal also reminds citizens that if they have children, are a senior, or are in a vulnerable population, they are probably eligible for benefits and credits that would help them.
She says it is important to file taxes on time to avoid penalties, and it is also important to stay clear of any CRA-related scams during the season.
The CRA will never communicate via text messages or use aggressive language over a phone call.
