The Diefenbaker Canada Centre on the University of Saskatchewan campus has welcomed a new exhibit titled Snapshots of Canada.
The display includes images of events that have shaped Canada’s identity as a country.
Helanna Gessner, the Diefenbaker Centre’s exhibits and collections manager, says the exhibit is meant to help people reflect on historic events that still have an impact on people today.
The display shows 50 powerful pictures with accompanying texts by well-known Canadian authors, historians, authors and journalists.
The images were chosen for their ability to invoke emotion. The travelling display is a collaboration between the Canadian Museum of History and the Canada History Society.
Gessner adds that another exhibit was opened alongside Snapshots of Canada. It is called Opikinawasowin: Growing Metis Children. It features art from Prince Albert artist, Leah Marie Dorian. The display is part of a larger Diefenbaker Canada Centre project called Power and Privilege in Saskatchewan Museums.
Both new exhibits opened on February 15th. Snapshots of Canada will be available until May 27th, and Opikinawasowin: Growing Metis Children will be available until May 19th.
