The 35 liquor permits auctioned off through McDougall Auctions’ website come to a total of $44,963,700. The final six were auctioned off Friday with the largest bid for a Fort Qu’Appelle permit at $1,700,200. The largest bid overall was for a La Ronge permit at $3,270,000. The lowest price for a permit was for one in North Battleford at $415,000.
These auctions are only for the permits, not for the buildings or any fixtures or inventory. The province said in a news release when announcing these auctions, that once they wrapped up, auctions would be held for communities that qualify for an additional permit under SLGA’s population matrix, if interest has been expressed. The provincial government announced last October that it would close its SLGA retail liquor stores by the end of March.
