The City of Saskatoon is hosting the ‘Atoskewin- Engaging an Indigenous Workforce’ Career Fair.
This is the first time the event is taking place, and it is a collaboration between the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies, Saskatoon Tribal Council, the City of Saskatoon, and Gabriel Dumont Institute.
“We know from previous job fairs that these events are a great resource, not only for those seeking employment, but employers as well,” said Saskatoon Tribal Council Chief Mark Arcand. “The job fair could open doors for anyone, and the Saskatoon Tribal Council encourages all, and especially our relatives, to explore the opportunities available to have a good quality of life.”
The event is a response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Call to Action #92, which was to ensure Indigenous peoples have access to jobs, training, and education opportunities. A news release from the City of Saskatoon says throughout the event, they will be seeking the expertise of community partners to identify and remove systemic barriers in the job recruitment of Indigenous People.
The career fair is open to anyone and will be held today from 11:00am until 6:00pm at the White Buffalo Youth Lodge.
