A bill that would attempt to ease the financial struggles of university students across the country was introduced by the federal NDP party.
Bill C-260 aims to make post-secondary education more accessible and affordable.
NDP Member of Parliament Blake Dejarlais says that young people are paying huge prices for education, and the annual tuition increase that Canadian students are seeing has to stop.
Dejarlais says Bill C-260 would stabilize university’s public revenue and bring increased tuition hike demands down.
He also says the bill would make sure Canadian universities received provincial funding.
Right now, provincial leaders aren’t required to use the funding in the social transfers act for universities, but Dejarlais says Bill C-260 would prohibit them from redirecting those funds.
