As I write this commentary, or I should say type it, I’m reminded of how I took one year of typing in school, and I do mean typing, as on a typewriter, not a keyboard like I’m using now. I admit I use the “hunt & peck “method where you don’t use all your fingers like our teacher forced us to use that year. I remember that the word TYPEWRITER was the longest word you could make using only one row on the keyboard, the top row obviously. If you used only your left hand, the longest word you could make on the left side of the keyboard was STEWARDESS (that’s what they called flight attendants when I was a boy). The longest word you could type with the right hand was LOLLIPOP. I remember an old test sentence that used every letter in the alphabet, “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog”. I had never dreamt that dreamt is the only word we have ending in “mt”. If you tried for a month you wouldn’t find any words that rhyme with “month”, or the colour “orange”, or my all-time favourite colour, “purple” (unless you made up a nonsense rhyme like “Roses are red, violets are purple, sugar is sweet like maple surple”, but that would be silly) . Now I’ll hunt & peck my way out of here because I’m becoming “facetious”, which by the way, is one of only two words that use all five vowels in order.
That’s Coffeetalk. I’m Vic Dubois.
