Thursday sees the opening of the Clarence Downey Speed Skating Oval.
Located in the Gordie Howe Sports Complex on Dudley Street at Avenue R, the 400-metre outdoor oval rink also has a warm-up building with public washrooms, change rooms and an area to lace up skates. Speed skates aren’t required. The oval is closed Fridays, but is open to the public Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 3-30 p.m. and, again, from 7 to 8-30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday public skating hours are Noon to 6 p.m. Following is the news release from the City of Saskatoon…..

Now that the cold weather has set in, residents looking for a free winter activity can enjoy skating at Clarence Downey Speed Skating Oval (Oval) or at an outdoor neighbourhood rink.
The Oval, located on Dudley Street at Avenue R in the Gordon Howe Complex, is a 400-metre outdoor, oval-shaped rink for all skating levels. A warm-up building provides change rooms, public washrooms, and an area to lace up skates in comfort. Speed skates are not required.
The first day of operation is Thursday, December 15.
Public Skating Hours:
- Monday to Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Closed Fridays
