The provincial government has introduced some changes to Saskatchewan’s liquor laws. Legislation was introduced today (Mon) to amend the Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act, which the government says will modernize the regulations. They include letting municipalities and park authorities decide whether or not they want to designate outdoor public places such as parks for consumption of alcohol for anyone of legal age and removing the requirement that permit applicants publish their intentions to get a liquor permit in local newspapers.
The changes would also simplify the recorking provisions for those with a permit. As well, the amendment includes allowing homemade beer, wine and cider to be served at family events which have a special occasion permit. This includes products manufactured at a U-Brew/U-Vin facility. It’s expected the Bill amending the legislation will pass next spring.
