Existing provincial incentives will be expanded to include lithium extraction. The Government of Saskatchewan is expanding both the Oil and Gas Processing Investment Incentive and the Saskatchewan Petroleum Innovation Incentive to allow eligible lithium projects to be included.
Prairie Lithium and Grounded Lithium are currently drilling in the province and several others are interested. Energy and Resources Minister, Jim Reiter, says, “Lithium demand is forecast to increase significantly over the next decade.” He adds that lithium is considered an emerging commodity which will aid in diversifying Saskatchewan’s mining and energy sectors. It is primarily used in portable electronic devices and electric vehicles.
