The Saskatoon Civic Election is two years away—-but a review of the current ward boundaries will begin soon.
The Ward boundary reviews have been done prior to each of the last three elections in 2012, 2016 and 2020. The wards are adjusted based on population changes since the last review. The formula takes the total city population and divide it by ten. Each ward then must be within ten percent plus or minus that number.
Based on current calculations, Wards 2 and 7 fall outside of that number. Ward 2 is below the limit, while Ward 7 is above.
The Municipal Wards Commission will undertake the process of reviewing the ward boundaries. Those new boundaries will be established next year to take effect in time for the 2024 civic election.
Another topic before the Governance and Priorities Committee today (mon) is the City of Saskatoon budget to contemplate increased expenditures such as fuel and natural gas.
The information report from Administration says it also expects to see significant increases on the other side of the ledger from sources such as Municipal Revenue Sharing, Investment Income and Transit revenues.
