Melfort RCMP received reports earlier today (Tues) of a possible sighting of Myles Sanderson on the James Smith Cree Nation, but police now say he isn’t in the community, and his whereabout remains unknown. A Dangerous Persons alert covers the whole province. Saskatchewan RCMP urge the public to take appropriate precautions.
Yesterday (Mon), Sanderson’s brother, Damien Sanderson was found dead in a grassy area near a home that is part of the investigation. RCMP Assistant Commissioner Rhonda Blackmore stated yesterday that his injuries didn’t appear to be self-inflicted.
The death toll, including Damien Sanderson, is 11 and 18 injured across 13 different crime scenes between the James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon. Myles Sanderson is facing three counts of first degree murder along with one count of attempted murder along with a break and enter charge.
RCMP advise to use caution allowing others into your home and do not leave a secure location. Don’t approach suspicious persons and don’t pick up hitchhikers. Report anyone or anything that looks suspicious to 911., and those in the area are asked to not disclose police locations.
Thirty-two year old Myles Sanderson is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant, in the investigation of multiple homicides on September 4th. His charges are three counts of first degree murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of break and enter.
Meanwhile, former Member of Parliament and a former RCMP officer, Rob Clark, has started a Go-Fund-Me page for James Smith Cree Nation for the victims and the victim’s families. He notes that the costs are astronomical from funeral costs to hospital and family expenses to long-term rehab and counseling. So far the page has raised almost $102,000.
