It’s my Parting Shot for some Weekend Short Shots…..
Last year, it was Colton Dach’s father, this year it’s Kyle Crnkovic’s father…unhappy with the progress of their son’s career paths and, in part, blaming the Saskatoon Blades for that by forcing a trade. Before you start thinking this is a, solely, Bridge City Bunch problem, this happens with pretty much every team at some point or another. What the team sees as the best way to utilize a player and how the parents see as the best for their son can be two, entirely different viewpoints – as was the case with Colton Dach. And, how N-H-L teams predict and rate the potential for a young man can be quite different than what that prospect’s parents see – as in the case of Kyle Crnkovic. I applaud Blades’ President and G-M Colin Priestner for being able to acquire solid assests in return in Trevor Wong for Dach and Conner Roulette for Crnkovic. I think Blue and Gold fans are going to love what Roulette brings to the table!
Welcome to the “silly season” for sports, an over-flowing cornucopia of baseball, C-F-L, N-F-L about to start, Huskies football getting going tonight, Hilltops football, junior hockey training camps beginning, N-H-L camps on the horizon, U-S Open tennis, elite-level curling starting far too early, etc. Of course what I said about elite-level curling goes for hockey, but that’s all a personal opinion sort of thing, and guess what side of that coin I fall on?!
The only thing I didn’t mention was golf. The L-P-G-A’s C-P Canadian Open has passed, so has the FedEx Cup playoffs for the P-G-A Tour…something that should happen in late November or early December, in my humble opinion!
Speaking of golf, with Blades’ training camp underway and exhibition games starting next week, tomorrow might be my last round of the year as I pray for light winds and a slightly lower high temperature than forecast at the wide-open Legends links in Warman! Have your ears open out there tomorrow afternoon as you may hear a “FORE!”
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…..
