You should start noticing school and playground speed limit signs are being switched out to reflect the new rules which go into effect September 1st.
School and playground zones will be 30 kilometres per hour from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week once the new school year gets underway.
This is the last summer that school zones will not be in effect.
Around high schools however there will no longer be specially posted speed limits because that too is changing. The 30 km/h speed limit will not apply around high schools.
But it will apply to the newly created playground zones which impact roads near park spaces that have play equipment or programmed sports fields intended for children 14 and under.
And U-turns are not permitted in school zones around elementary or high schools.
