It’s my Parting Shot for some Tuesday Tidbits…..
It was nice to feel like a, quote-unquote, Sports Director again yesterday, getting away from my desk and from staring at a computer screen in order to be out in the community and be where the action is…which is what got my juices going about being in the media more than 43 years ago!
The Saskatoon Blades introduced former captain Wacey Rabbit as an assistant coach…16 years after he last suited up for the Bridge City Bunch as a player. It’s another example of just how old I’m getting! The always-affable “Wascally Wabbit” is joined in Saskatoon by his wife of one year, Ashley Callingbull, as a brand ambassador for the Blades and Saskatchewan Rush. She will be a great addition, a very smart, composed and articulate young woman who should relate well in various areas of the Saskatoon and area community!
Before that, I attended the 60th anniversary celebration of the Holiday Park Golf Course. I haven’t played the municipal lay-out for at least six years and looking down the first fairway yesterday, along with the many times I pass by on South Circle Drive, makes me yearn to try it out again. Head pro Brian Gabrush says come on down…who am I to argue?!
Speaking of golf, I played my fifth round of golf this year back on Saturday at The Willows, and the fourth in a non-team format. My question is, how much of the sport today is pure talent and how much is technology? I don’t want to disparage anyone who plays the game well, better than me and my 15ish handicap. But, how much of their game has been aided by advances in golf ball and, more specifically, golf club technology? If it’s a lot, then I’m lagging behind with my 20 year-old clubs purchased from Greenbryre and the end days of Peter Semko’s time running the old 18-hole version of that course. Yes, I’m whining about my golf game when really what I should be whining about is the fact I suffer from LOFT…lack of freaking talent! What did you think I was going to say? You naughty bunch! By the way…FORE!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…..
