Construction on a new water treatment plant in Esterhazy is officially underway.
Mayor Grant Forster says the current water plant is around 50 years old, and the need for a new facility was identified by previous town councils.
The project will cost roughly 29.9-million dollars, with 11.9-million provided by the federal government and 9.9-million provided by the government of Saskatchewan.
M-L-A for Melville-Saltcoats Warren Kaeding notes that a new water treatment plant is crucial for the potential growth in the Esterhazy area.
The water plant is expected to be operational by spring of 2025 and will provide potable water for Esterhazy residents, with the capacity to provide water for the villages of Dubuc, Stockholm and Yarbo, as well as the nearby Mosaic Potash site.
