The case of a woman charged with driving a car with its roof ripped off after colliding with a semi has made its way through the courts.
Shayla McDonald who was 27-years-old at the time of the incident has been sentenced to 12 months probation, a total of $4,000 in fines and 18 months driving prohibition which commenced on the day of sentencing, June 13th.
She was arrested October 21, 2021 by Glaslyn RCMP after they received a report that the car hit a semi while trying to pass another vehicle on the shoulder of the highway. This was on Highway 4 about 32 kilometres south of Meadow Lake.
The vehicle’s windshield had been destroyed and the roof was ripped off. RCMP tracked down the damaged car which was headed towards Meadow Lake and tried to pull it over but the driver didn’t stop. Officers continued to follow the vehicle, which drove through Meadow Lake and stopped at a home on the east side.
RCMP in their initial news release indicated that there were six empty bottles of alcohol and another half full in the vehicle.
