A CAA School Zone Safety Assessment was conducted in Shaunavon earlier this week to track risky behaviours by drivers, pedestrians and cyclists in the school zone.
Lona Gervais with CAA Saskatchewan says the School Zone Safety Assessment is an online app that tracks the identified risky behaviours and provides education and awareness about the importance of school zone safety.
It’s free and it can be booked by CAA.
The results are collected and given to the school community.
From the assessment at Christ the King School in Shaunavon, the top hazardous driving behaviours were failing to yield or stop, speeding and failing to signal to turn or to change lanes.
The risky pedestrian behaviours were jaywalking and failing to look both ways before crossing the street, and the top risky cyclist behaviours were not wearing a helmet, not dismounting to cross the street, and failing to look both ways.
