It’s my Parting Shot to discuss the local sports phenomenon known as the Saskatchewan Rush…..
At first, this was going to be an early-week edition of my weekly feature known as, “My reactions to the headlines in today’s Star-Phoenix Sports Section.”
Then, I caught sight of the first big headline, Rush fans quick to get party started, and I knew I had a solo topic for today!
When it comes to the Rush, the National Lacrosse League and Saskatoon…some things don’t change…except, maybe, for the size of the crowd! I expect those will rebound once everybody gets over the whole needing to provide proof of vaccination, or getting vaccinated period, or showing a very recent negative COVID-19 test!
Those stipulations aren’t going away anytime soon, folks…just listen to the news these days about the new, not so sexy variant called “Omicron!”
But, I digress. The Saskatchewan Rush have started the 2021-22 season with a pair of one-goal losses and are tied for the N-L-L’s West Division basement. However, unlike those fans who follow the Riders, their favourite N-H-L or local hockey team or the Blue Jays, etcetera, the Rush’s record and how they’re doing in the standings doesn’t matter!
Unless it means losing out on a home playoff date and another chance to get their party on at SaskTel Centre! All that Rush fans want is cold beer or available hard liquor…and lots of it…and as many chances to celebrate goals by pounding on their chests as if they’re Catholics doing “Oh God be merciful to me a sinner” several times over!
Yes, I know the routine comes from Matthew McConaughey in a movie that I’ve never seen! You get what I’m saying, though?!
The Rush and the N-L-L are back and, hopefully nothing can stop it again!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…..
