A lengthy RCMP investigation led to charges being laid against 65 year old Yantai Gan—a well-known pulse crop research scientist—more than two years ago.
Gan was employed at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Research Farm in Swift Current when RCMP executed a search warrant at his workplace and residence on November 19, 2019.
The warrant was issued as a result of an extensive investigation led by the RCMP’s National Security Enforcement Section, initiated in February 2018.
Gan will appear in Swift Current Provincial Court on Monday, December 13th. He is charged with breach of trust by a public officer, fraud over $5,000 and possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000.
RCMP said in a news release that they were not prepared to comment further at this time because the matter is now before the courts.
