One of the ten people charged in the investigation into the death of 25 year old Tiki Laverdiere has been found guilty of first degree murder. Nikita Cook’s charge of kidnapping was stayed.
It was a judge-only trial. Cook is sentenced to life in prison and won’t be eligible for parole for 25 years.
Tiki Laverdiere’s body was found in a rural area outside of North Battleford in 2019. She attended a funeral for 20 year old Tristen Cook-Buckle on the Thunderchild First Nation in April of that year and the Edmonton woman was reported missing in May.
Three of the ten people charged in connection to the investigation have been sentenced. Brent Checkosis and Mavis Takakenew pled guilty to accessory after the fact to murder and Charles St. Savard pled guilty to kidnapping.
Six others: Nicole Cook, Soaring Eagle Whitstone, Shayla Orthner, Danita Thomas and Jesse Sangster have been charged with first degree murder, improperly interfering with a body and kidnapping.
