If you’re shopping in Prince Albert, you’ll no-longer receive plastic bags at the checkout.
That city has implemented a plastic bag ban effective today (tues).
Mayor Greg Dionne says, “We have a throw away culture. This ban is a first step in what needs to be a rethinking of what we are producing and how much we are sending to the landfill.”
The ban applies to plastic bags, including biodegradable plastic that is distributed at the checkout counter.
The bylaw to ban plastic bags has been in the works since the summer of 2019. An online survey conducted during that time found that 75 per cent of respondents were in favour of the ban.
