Saskatoon’s River Landing will be full of excitement and entertainment with the Nutrien Fireworks Festival making its return to in-person events this weekend. Festival Director, Shad Ali says Friday’s show will be a special tribute to frontline workers and healthcare personnel. Brad Dezotell from Fireworks Spectaculars created the show to thank them for their dedication and support. Then Saturday’s show will recognize Indigenous heritage. Dezotell worked with Donnie Speidel from Buffalo Boys, a First Nations dance troupe based out of Saskatoon to put together the music mix for the show. Music for the show will include the likes of Buffy Saint Marie, Ernest Monias, Redbone, Electric Pow Wow (formerly A Tribe Called Red) John Arcand on fiddle, Kevin Lock on flute, along with many others. Buffalo Boys will also perform live at the Cultural Showcase at 9 o’clock Saturday. Ali encourages those attending the fireworks festival to walk, ride their bike or take transit. Attendees are also reminded to bring their face mask and hand sanitizer. As of 9:00 a.m. Friday morning, the Traffic Bridge is closed to traffic while the Broadway Bridge will be closed as of 6:30 p.m. Friday evening. Detours will be in place to guide motorists around the event area. Saskatoon Transit may be affected by this closure. Transit service alerts and real-time bus information is available on third-party apps like Transit and Google Maps Transit. Food trucks will also be available on the Traffic Bridge, at River Landing and in Rotary Park. The fireworks shows get underway at 9:30 p.m. each night.
