The John G. Diefenbaker Airport is receiving more passengers, compared to the early days of the global pandemic.
Saskatoon Airport Authority spokesperson, CJ Duchinski says there was a fair increase from June to July.
In July there were about 50,000 people arriving and departing from the airport.
For the year, the airport passenger numbers are down about 63 per cent.
The Airport Authority applied for funding through the Airport Relief Fund and the request was accepted for a total of $2.84-million.
Then, last week, Transport Canada announced the airport would receive another $10.9-million to rehabilitate the main runway and make other improvements.
The funding comes from the Airport Critical Infrastructure Program.
Also, earlier this year, the Airport Authority applied for international designation, but Transport Canada has extended the deadline until mid next year because of pandemic constraints.
Duchinski says this is not something they have applied for before.
It’s just a change in the paperwork.
She emphasizes that it doesn’t affect what flights can come and go from the airport.
