A charity steer is raised every year by one of the clubs attending the 4-H Regional Show and Sale in Prince Albert.
The Wild Rose 4-H Beef Club had the honour this year and decided to dedicate the sale money to the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan. The charity was chosen because two parents of club members are currently winning their battles with cancer.
The sale was done by Dutch Auction, which raised $49,930. That total was matched by Malcolm Jenkins, the owner of the Canadian Tire Store in Prince Albert. An Alberta company topped it up to an even $100,000.
The money will go towards the purchase of a 4-D CT Simulator which can determine the most effective, efficient and exact radiation plan possible.
JGL Livestock donated the steer and Proveta provided the feed.
(AN UPDATE ON THE ABOVE STORY–JGL will be matching Malcom Jenkins donation, which will bring the total amount to $150,000 for the Saskatchewan Cancer Foundation)
