The Horizon School Division is budgeting for an overall surplus for the year ending August 31, 2022, of $9.764 million. It says that is equal to the funding for the Lanigan capital project. That project will consolidate the elementary and high schools. The $96.6 million budget includes a modest one per cent increase in operating grant revenue. Provincial capital grant funding included an increase of $233,570 for preventative maintenance and renewal, and $9.764 Million for the Lanigan project. The Division says new funding only met 44 per cent of the new expenditures facing the Board, which includes costs from the teachers’ collective bargaining agreement, carbon tax, and inflationary pressures.
